June 1, 2000 Milford Cable TV is proud to annouce that it has updated it cable tv system and will start offering a cable modem service that will be used to allow the physical Ethernet-networking protocols to run over traditional cable television wire. On the PC side, an Ethernet card plugs into the back of the cable modem, along with a cable TV wire. On the head-end side, a CMTS device takes the input from the cable TV wire and converts those data signals back to Ethernet, where they are hooked up to the Internet. In the past, the CMTS to cable-modem connection has been proprietary. But now standard equipment makes cable modems interchangeable. That means cable modems can be bought at our cable office or can now be purchased in stores by customers.
